Optimizing our blog. Why and how?

Optimizing our blog. Why and how?We started our blog as part of our marketing strategy. But why will we want to keep writing, and what’s in it for the reader? Now we know. I feel that a blog must have a reason, to both writer AND the reader. Read more about our goals for blogging and improvements for style, blog features and look & feel.

Our goals are:
- Sharing our internet start-up experiences
- Giving updates on Bemba.com developments
- Valuating our visions and product features
- Getting in contact with interesting people
- Be part of our world

That’s motivating! Now back to optimizing what we have. During this post, I will focus on three topics: our style, blog features and look & feel.

Style
Etienne wrote ‘Successful blogs can be copied for their success but not their style’. We just started blogging and still have to develop our style. I think we can improve ourselves in some ways:
- Make it personal once in a while
- Write like a reporter on latest news
- Learn how to write magnetic headlines
- Use effective sub headings
- Write in simple English

Blog features
The following features should be improved or added to our blog:
- About page
- Contact form
- Email subscription box
- Footer with links to Homepage, About page, Contact page, RSS button
- Give a SEO tweak on our title tags, meta description and keywords
- Setup Flickr, Mybloglog and Twitter widgets
- Implement Add this, Delicious and Digg
- Setup Akismet Spammer

Look & feel
I think our theme needs much attention:
- Make it less boring
- Keep it professional
- Make it more Bemba
- Enlarge the comment button
- Enlarge the RSS button
- Add the Bemba favicon

Are there any major things I forgot? If so, please tell me. Tomorrow I’ll start changing what I can. I’ll write about promoting the Bemba Media Blog after that.

About Bemba Media

Bemba Media is a new social media company based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Founders Aaron Peters and Arne Dibbits are on a mission to offer people the easiest way to share their web experiences with friends and to discover what’s hot on the web right now.

The company launched Bemba.com in March 2008.

Bemba users share their favorite videos and websites on the social platforms they already use with their friends, like Facebook, Twitter and Hyves. More social networks and (micro-) blogs will follow.

Bemba will become a destination for 'funsurfing' the web, providing easy access to web content that people with similar interests have recently recommended to their friends.
