Bemba & Universal McCann’s Wave 3 Highlights

Universal McCanns‘ global research into the impact of social media is a project with an ongoing commitment to measure consumer usage, attitudes and interests in adopting social media platforms and is the largest exploration of its kind. See how Bemba meets the growth of social media.

Wave 3 surveyed 17,000 internet users in 2 countries and was completed in March 2008. Since Wave 1 in September 2006 the research has created genuine insights on the patterns of usage. The latest report (PDF) demonstrates the continued growth of social media, the impacts of this are huge.

These are the highlights:

What’s so interesting?

  1. Not surprisingly, we see lot’s of Bemba users sharing videos on their social platforms. Especially the more average internet users. It’s good to read that video clips are the quickest growing platform.
  2. People use Bemba to share on the social platforms they already use with their friends. Many people have joined a social network and lots use this space for sharing videos.
  3. Bemba offers seamless integration for shared websites and videos on social networks and (micro-) blogs. Widgets is one way to do it and people are getting used to this solution.
  4. Blogs are popular social platforms for both writers and readers. They are a great place to share ideas, stories, photos as well as websites and online videos.
  5. Seeding branded content will be a relevant revenue maker for Bemba. After Aaron’s presentation at The Next Web Conference, Mike Butcher wrote about Bemba: “Business model is ads on Bemba.com, contextual targeting etc etc. Their better is the branded content marketers could seed into the network.”

  • 394 million watch video clips online
  • 346 million read blogs/ weblogs
  • 321 million read personal blogs/ weblogs
  • 307 million visit a friend’s social network page
  • 303 million share a video clip
  • 272 million manage a profile on a social network

Bemba Media is a new social media company based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Founders Aaron Peters and Arne Dibbits are on a mission to offer people the easiest way to share their web experiences with friends and to discover what’s hot on the web right now.
